Work program

A fundamental element of our school is the work program, where students are assigned jobs that help to support and maintain the school. These positions provide opportunities for important life experiences, community development, and a closer connection to the school itself.

The basic model of the work program is inspired by a similar program at Northfield-Mount Hermon School. All students will be asked to work about 45 minutes each day, Monday through Saturday, doing such jobs as janitorial and clerical work, groundskeeping, teacher support, technical support, and tutoring. Students will be supervised in these positions by full-time staff or faculty members. Student jobs are not paid positions, nor is this an optional program - it is a requirement for all students.

The goal of the program is to teach students to respect the school's facilities and staff, and to encourage a good work ethic. The students will have to work together in order to ensure that the teachers and their fellow students can live in a happy, healthy, and productive environment. It will also be a unique experience for many students, who may not have had previous opportunities to work. Finally, the program also helps to keep tuition down: students will be doing tasks that would otherwise have to be performed by paid staff members.
